23 May 2002: the small tourist aeroplane with Lucien and 4 other people inside disappears without a trace. Lucien Kimitete, Boris Leontieff and their two deputies were on an election campaign. In the Marquesas Islands, the trauma is considerable. Nowadays, the inhabitants are still orphans of the man who made them proud by carrying the world and the culture of the Marquesas well beyond its ocean.
