After studying economics and sociology, and a brief stint at the Centre National du Cinéma (CNC) as a project manager, Franck Philippon became a screenwriter in 1997. Since then, he has shared his time between cinema, with three written films, and television. He has created a dozen series, including La Crim’ for France 2 (1998, 8 seasons), No Limit for TF1 (2011, 3 seasons) and Mirage (2020), an international co-production in English for France Télévisions International and ZDF.
His latest series, Les Espions de la Terreur, about the French secret service’s hunt for those responsible for the November 13 attacks, was broadcast in 2024 on M6 and is available on the M6+ platform. His next series, Clean, is in the final stages of post-production and will air on M6 in 2025.
Through his company Quintessence Fictions (part of the Wagram Stories group) and his Los Angeles office Babylone Pictures (with two American writer-producer partners), he also develops and produces films and series in French and English. Understanding our universal need for stories is grasping the keys to their creation. Regardless of the medium, format or genre, a story is based on founding principles that define its structure.
A storyline is a story designed for the image. Writing for television or cinema differs in narrative (stories, characters, identification, story) and structural issues (economy, interlocutors, partners, funding).
The workshop will focus on testimonies and examples, drawing on various documents such as:
At the end of the workshop, each participant will have the opportunity to pitch his or her project – whatever its format and genre – in order to reflect, as a group, on the best way to improve its promise and/or ingredients.
