Toa Fraser is a renowned New Zealand playwright, filmmaker and television director. Born in Britain to a Fiji Islander father and an English mother, Fraser has garnered acclaim for his work across various genres, and is recognised internationally for his versatility and resilience.
Fraser gained prominence for his feature films, including The Dead Lands (2014), a critically acclaimed action film that showcases Māori language and culture. His storytelling often highlights themes of identity and community, resonating with audiences both in Aotearoa and around the world.
In addition to his film work, Fraser has made significant strides in television, directing episodes for popular series such as Penny Dreadful, Daredevil and The Affair. Most recently, he served as producer/director on all three seasons of the Emmy-award winning Netflix show Sweet Tooth.
